In order to adopt a pet from the Humane
Society of Jackson County, you will need to complete an application for
adoption. This not only protects our animals, but you as an adopter, and
the Humane Society. We want to be sure our animals are adopted to loving
homes and will be well cared for. Adoption applications are generally
reviewed for approval within 1 to 3 working days.
You must be at least 21 years of age and have
identification showing your present address. If you rent your home, you
must be able to provide the name, address, and phone number of the
property owner or manager. Most apartment complexes have rules and
restrictions regarding pets. Please check with your landlord or
apartment manager before adopting a pet.
You must be willing and able to spend time with your
pet. It takes an average of two months for an animal to adjust to a new
home. You must also be able to afford necessary training, medical
treatment, and proper care for your pet. You will need to maintain your
adopted animal in accordance with the licensing and other laws of the
community in which you live. All adoptions come with a spay/neuter
certificate redeemable from your local vet.
No animal will be adopted to persons having a history
of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed by
moving vehicles. No animals will be adopted to persons who mislead or
fail to provide accurate information on the adoption application.
Adopters are legally bound by the terms of the signed adoption agreement
and shall be subject to paying any legal fees incurred by the Humane
Society of Jackson County in enforcing said agreement.
Adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $40 for cats. Cash
or checks (with 2 ID's) only. The adoption fee covers only a small
portion we incur for boarding, first immunizations, worming, and a spay/neuter
certificate redeemable through your veterinarian.
